THE SACRAMENT
 OF THE HOLY EUCHARIST

Preparation
To prepare for Communion we must keep our minds and hearts on spiritual things.

Prayer
When we come forward to receive, we should repeat the Communion prayer, which every Orthodox Christian should try to memorize.

Reverence
We approach the Holy Communion 'with fear of God, faith and love', knowing that our bodies and souls will become one with Christ.

Acceptance
We hold the red Communion cloth beneath our chin, using it to wipe our lips if necessary. We should open our mouth wide to receive the Holy Communion and not be afraid to close our lips upon the spoon. If there are acolytes holding the cloth, release the cloth and do not try to hand it to the next communicant. Turn toward the Consecrated
Bread (Antidoron), make your cross and take a piece of it.

Return
Return to your seat, remain standing and say a prayer of thanksgiving for this greatest gift of all on earth and in Heaven.

A Special Note from Father Dionysios about Receiving Communion
Please step up close to receive Communion, take the Cloth and place it under your chin.  When receiving the Communion, please open your mouth wide.

Deadline: The Dormition of the Theotokos Monthly Newsletter deadline is the 20th of the previous month. Please submit your materials on time.

Content: Articles, notes and other information of interest for our parish can be sent by mail.

Church Attendance: A regular attendance of the church's services reflects how seriously you approach your salvation.

Parents with Sunday School children: Children must sit with their families in the front pews, so they will be served Communion first. During the school year, after Communion, children will proceed directly to their classrooms. Please remember that coming to the church late teaches our children bad habits. Make it a point to bring them on time.

SICK AND VISITATION

Nonda Zaharias would appreciate your prayers for his speedy recovery.

The following parishioners would welcome your calls and/or visits.  Please be sure to call before visiting.

"I will not leave you, neither will I forsake you." Joshua 1:5

There was a bishop in Ephesus who had a tame partridge that he liked to play with now and then. One day a hunter stopped to see the bishop and saw him playing with his pet.

"I'm surprised to see you playing with a bird," said the hunter.

Pointing to the bows and arrows carried by the hunter, the bishop asked, "Why do you unbend your bow when you are not hunting?"

"Because if it was kept strung, it would lose its force," replied the hunter.

"It's the same with a human being," explained the bishop, "A man must relax his mind with some innocent amusement, otherwise it would break under work and stress."

That is the reason we have vacation - to refresh the body, the mind and the soul. I would like to make some suggestions about vacation. Keep in mind that there is never any vacation from God. God is always thinking of us, even during vacation; we must think of God, even during vacation.
     1. Divine Liturgy is a must during summer months. You need God's blessing then more than ever.
     2. There should be a prayer everyday, at least a little one. It takes but a minute. Be sure to thank God for the blessings and good times you have.
     3. Consider going to Confession and receive Holy Communion at least once every month. You need God's life, received through the sacraments, to keep us spiritually strong and renewed.
     4. Safety first, for body and soul, is a good motto for vacation. During these months there are more dangers to body and soul than at any other time. Physical accidents and fatalities grow in number. But spiritual accidents are much worse.
      5. Do a little reading during these carefree days. Take 5 or 10 minutes regularly and read a few pages of Holy Scripture or something from the church fathers. You can always ask your priest to suggest some reading.

May you all have a pleasant, refreshing, and healthy vacation. Let us use it as a time to build up our body and soul so that by summer's end, we may be rested physically and spiritually.

In Christ,

Fr. Dionysios

AHEPA
           By Dimitrios Efstathiou (286-1187)

The AHEPA would like to congratulate Erin Anton, Mary-Alyson Touloupas and Zack Benson for winning the 2006 Order of AHEPA Chapter General Greene scholarships and Anthony Harrison for winning the scholarship in memory of deceased Ahepan Nick Kritselis.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 22nd at 7:00 pm.  We will meet at the Church Hall and we will have a steak dinner.  Topics of discussion will be our social meetings and events planning for fall and winter 2006. Please make every effort to attend!

GOYA
The GOYANS had a super successful yard sale and would like to thank all that donated their treasured items.  They made about 800.00 bucks (before expenses).  A huge thanks also goes to our adult volunteers.  Anthoula Contogiannis, Mariana Barbee and, Eula Mott worked like crazy to make this fundraiser a success.
This was Paul Mott's first event as GOYA President, and he (along with his sidekick Dean Stikeleather) got there early, worked like Trojan Horses and, then left late.  Paul had big shoes to fill because Pete Graham was one heck of a good GOYA President, but it looks like the shoes are fitting just perfectly.  Thanks Paul for steering the ship.

VACATION CHURCH SCHOOL
                    By Doris Zaharias (622-6076)

I know that every one would like to have their children take part in their VCS (Vacation Church School), but there were just not enough time for you to plan around it, and I am very sorry about the short notice.   But I am not giving up.   Like my Father said; "To succeed try, try, try again."  I have rescheduled VCS for August just before the start of school, and after the Church Name Day.   I think that this would be a great way to start off our church year.
I know that all of my Orthodox Christian Brothers & Sisters want our youth to learn about their faith, how they fit into their faith, and how they can help their church and community.   However, they don't learn it by themselves, it takes the parents, teachers, and church members support and help in their learning process.   Sign Up Sheets are in the hall for students, teachers, and helpers.  For more information, call Doris Zaharias 622-6076.
